Rabies Control
One of the three main responsibilities of Whiteside County Animal Control is to protect the
citizens of the county from rabies through the inoculation and registration of dogs, stray dog
impoundment, animal bite investigations and other rabies control measures as may be deemed
necessary.
Rabies
Rabies is an infectious and often fatal viral disease that attacks the central nervous system and
is transmitted by the bite of an infected animal. There is no cure; only prevention. Animal
Control is encouraging owners to vaccinate their pet against rabies. If an infected animal comes
into contact with your unvaccinated pet, it would be subject to a strict quarantine of six months
or euthanized.
A $200 fine can be issued for lack of registration and/or inoculation.
NOTICE. Section 7-6, paragraph (c) of the Whiteside County Code reads as follows:
Any owner of a dog four months or more of age which is not officially inoculated against
rabies OR registered with Whiteside County is subject to a fine of at least $200. A separate
offense shall be deemed committed on each day during which a violation occurs.
