Whiteside County Animal Control’s responsibility is to protect the residents of the County from rabies through the inoculation and registration of dogs, stray dog impoundment, animal bite investigations and other rabies control measures as may be deemed necessary. Rabies is an infectious and fatal viral disease that attacks the central nervous system and is transmitted by the bite of an infected animal. There is no cure; only prevention. Animal Control encourages dog owners to vaccinate their pet(s) against rabies. If an infected animal comes into contact with your unvaccinated pet, it would be subject to a strict quarantine of six (6) months or worse, euthanized. |
