Project Sticker Schock
High school students, under the supervision of Rock Falls Police Chief Mike Kuelper, place Project Sticker Shock stickers on packages of beer at a local liquor store in the spring of 2009. The stickers warn purchasers they are breaking the law if they buy alcohol for minors. |
Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs CommitteeMission: To increase pro-health messages to individuals by targeting key populations, especially youth and their parents.
Past Activities:

Engaged youth in leadership enrichment activities such as sponsorship to the Illinois Drug Education Alliance (IDEA) Conference.

Developed anti-tobacco campaign called “Butts are Gros,“ which was recognized at IDEA Conference in Springfield, IL. Click here to view our antii-smoking commercial.

Developed marketing campaign called “Children Learn What the Live” focusing on the impressionability of youth in their home environments and the “Dear Loved Ones” campaign which included letters from area children about second hand smoke.

Collaborated with the Sterling Police Department on several events including teen dances and National Night Out.

Helped coordinate 2006 Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking.
- Involved in Town Hall meetings which discussed statewide smoking ban in public places
Other Activities:

Working with local law enforcement to assess community needs and risk factors in order to develop messages focusing on Whiteside County needs.

Developed Whiteside County Crime Stoppers sticker for the Daily Gazette newspaper promoting community awareness and action towards reporting on crimes.

Gave a presentation and demonstration for state legislators on the dangers of second hand smoke with a focus on the effects on children.

Sponsored several television ad campaigns: “Fish Out of Water” focusing on asthma, and “Don’t Pass Gas” focusing on secondhand smoke.

Developed Project Ticker Shock in April 2008, invovling high school youth in raising awareness about the consequences of providing liquor for minors; It's now a state-wide event.
- Launched Red Ribbon Week in Oct. 2006, lining both Sterling and Rock Falls bridges with hundreds of red ribbons, posting banners and more red ribbons at area schools
- Working to pass Keg Registration ordinance throughout Whiteside County
